Baines CampSet in a grove of trees, and surrounded by papyrus beds, Sanctuary Baines’ Camp is built on raised platforms high above the Boro River in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.

Tented safari camp
Baines Camp is in a private concession adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve. It has a tranquil setting in a grove of trees by the Boro River. The whole camp is set on raised decks for far reaching views. With just six tents, this is an exclusive camp with a distinctly upmarket feel. You won’t want to leave. The camp is named after the Victorian artist and explorer Thomas Baines and you’ll see examples of his art work throughout the camp.
Game drives and seasonal motorised boat cruises offer excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. As the camp is on a private concession you’ll be able to venture out on foot with your guide for a more intense nature experience, enjoy a gentle mokoro ride (depending on water levels) and take exciting night drives for a glimpse of nocturnal species.
While here you should visit the Living with Elephants project which aims to promote a more positive relationship between these animals and people, to enjoy the company of their 2 semi-habituated orphaned elephants. Read more about the ‘Walking with Elephants’ experience.
Between activities you’ll have time to settle back in a leather sofa, sip a cooling drink and enjoy the expansive views. The wide deck is perfect for chilling, chatting and spotting wildlife by the river. To the back are the main dining and sitting areas, shaded and cool. There’s a swimming pool, too with open and covered decks.
Suites, like the main area set on raised decks, are large with a lounge as well as a bedroom. There are power points for charging batteries, and a minibar filled with a selection of drinks. To the rear is the bathroom with a shower, dual hand basins and a toilet in a separate room. The deck at the front faces the river and is perfect for relaxing.
Star Baths and Star Beds – When you return from your night drive might be surprised with a romantic, star bubble bath waiting on your private viewing deck. Immerse yourself in the scenery of the sparkling waters of the Boro River while sipping sparkling wine under the stars. The four-poster beds at the camp are fully mobile, allowing you the option to sleep under starry skies on your deck too. Keen astronomers will enjoy stargazing the crystal clear Milky Way – from the privacy of your cosy bed.
