Chitabe Concession, Okavango Delta
Tented safari camp
Chitabe Main Camp
Located in a private concession of the same name, Chitabe Camp offers year 4×4 safaris in different habitats with excellent game and predator sightings. The camp has large and luxurious social areas and spacious tents all overlooking the plains, and has impressive eco credentials.
The camp is in the private Chitabe Concession in the south-east Okavango Delta and has a number of habitats including floodplains, waterways, woodlands and islands. Game viewing is excellent year round. You have day and night game drives, with rests and bean bags available to steady your camera for better photography. You can expect to see elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lechwe and predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard at any time of year. Wild dog are often seen in the concession. You can take guided walks and enjoy bird watching. If you’re interested in San Bushman culture you should take the half day excursion to Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, available at extra charge.
Back in camp you can relax in the main lounge, bar and dining areas which are equipped with a clever evaporative cooling system and are set on elevated decks to make the most of the plains views. To the front of this area there’s a firepit with cosy seating used for afternoon tea and sundowners. Meals are served under cover and in the boma for atmospheric open air dinners.
The lodge has a lap pool and sundeck with a covered lounge to one side when the sun becomes too hot. Fitness enthusiasts can make a beeline to gym where there are weights and exercise machines.
Raised wooden walkways lead from the central area to individual tents. These provide comfy and spacious en-suite accommodation and are decorated with attractive wildlife prints and patterned cushions, and there’s a private deck where you sit and watch passing wildlife.
Times to go
The camp is open all year and day and night game drives are available throughout the year. In the dry winter months game populations are at their highest. Walking safaris are offered year round, too, though from March to June rainfall and vegetation may render conditions unfavourable by providing coverage for predators, so walks are at the discretion of the camp’s manager.

Tuskwana the Elephant likes this because…
“Chitabe is committed to raising the living standards of its employees with the aim of raising their families out of poverty, and won a silver medal in the Poverty Reduction section at the African Responsible Tourism Awards in 2016. Chitabe uses 100% solar power and you can take a tour of the solar farm and learn about the lodge’s eco credentials. The lodge helps guides collect data for the Predator Conservation Trust and helps fund the trust’s work. They also participate in an annual aerial survey of the concession which monitors wildlife populations. “
And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Botswana Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.
