Dinaka Safari LodgeSet by a permanent waterhole in the remote Kalahari desert, Dinaka combines safaris and cultural activities and the opportunity to relax in comfort.
Private reserve in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve
Tented safari camp
The location is remote: a private reserve in the remote Central Kalahari Game Reserve, but that doesn’t mean you need to forego comfort. Dinaka has been designed to meet the expectations of 21st century travellers, looking for high quality accommodation and service.
Guest tents are modelled on the traditional safari style with the benefit of large picture windows along both sides making it wonderfully light, and a thatched roof to keep the interior cool. You have plenty of space to relax, including a shaded veranda facing the waterhole, which attracts wildlife year round. The fully plumbed bathroom has a shower and flush toilet, and there’s another shower open to the sky.
Wooden walkways link tents to the main area, a large building with separate living and dining areas. Reclining on a sofa you can relax as you leaf through a reference book and enjoy a chilled drink. Meals are usually eaten together as a group, providing opportunities to swap stories with fellow guests as you enjoy your meal.
Game drives, day and night, take you into the Dinaka Reserve where you can spot desert lion, leopard, cheetah, gemsbok, kudu, giraffe, zebra and brown hyena, among others, not forgetting the smaller creatures such as honey badger, mongoose, porcupine and bat-eared fox. Birds regularly seen include goshawk and kori bustard. A number of hides and an underground bunker let you watch wildlife at close quarters, and capture some superb photos.
You should not miss the opportunity to spend time with a San Bushman guide, to gain an added insight into the flora and fauna and learn how the bushmen people survive in this seemingly harsh environment.
The sleep out deck is available for guests who want to spend a night in the desert, an intense experience with the sounds of nature around you and the sparkling stars bright in the sky above.
- See Kalahari lion and other desert animals
- Explore with a San Bushman guide
- Watch wildlife from hides
- Relax in the spacious lounge
