Duba Plains

Duba Plains is in the heart of the Okavango Delta, amidst small islands, woodland and vast floodplains. Built on a tree-filled island the camp has just six tents, and it is a lovely peaceful place to relax between wildlife activities. Duba Plains is known for vast buffalo herds in the area near the camp which of course attract the attention of local lions, and you should also see a range of plains game and many species of birds. There are early morning and late afternoon game drives in 4×4 vehicles specially adapted for the local terrain, plus seasonal boat safaris and night drives.

Accommodation is in spacious and luxurious tents positioned among shady trees and set on wooden decks. The tents have large windows, giving them a light and spacious feel. The décor is elegant and classy reminiscent of a safari of the 1920s. There’s a lounge area and a bathroom with twin basins, shower, bathtub and flush toilet plus an additional outdoor shower. There is 24-hour solar-heated water. From the bedroom double doors open onto a wide viewing deck overlooking the floodplains. The spacious deck also has a plunge pool and a shaded sala area with daybed, perfect for siestas.

Pathways lead from individual tents to the central tent. Under the contemporary sail-like tented roof you will find the dining room, lounge and bar, which are open to the front, maximising on the views. This is the place to rest and relax in the middle of the day and look out onto the plains. There’s an outdoor dining area often used for brunch and an open air fireplace which comes into its own for sundowner and after dinner drinks.

In essence, the remote Duba Plains offers one of the best all-round Okavango experiences in an area rich in wildlife, and its annual repeat guests are testament to this.
