Duma Tau Camp

Duma Tau’s name is an evocative one, meaning ‘roar of the lion’. This is apt as the camp is in prime lion hunting ground, which will make your safari here all the more exciting. This area is also known for its large elephant population. It’s no surprise that game drives are the main activity, showcasing the rich and varied wildlife of this private reserve.

Night drives with spotlights and nature walks each reveal different and enthralling aspects of nature. Equally spending patient time on our deck or the deck in the main area could pay off in the form of stunning wildlife photographs. When water levels permit you’ll be able to explore by boat and try your luck fishing, though this is catch and release so your catch will live to fight another day!

Resting from all this activity is a pleasure at Duma Tau. The large, open-sided lounge-dining area offers comfy seating and great eating, all to views of the watery wilderness beyond the camp. The lounge is filled with safari furniture from years gone by such as chunky wooden chests and vintage lamps, and lots of local artefacts. Tea, coffee and snacks are available throughout the day. Many meals are served al fresco on the dining deck. The firepit is set in a circular deck, the scene of convivial post-dinner drinks. The swimming pool and sundeck is tucked away for discreet bathing and sunbathing

Your personal suite is a spacious, canvas-roofed structure with mesh windows and sliding doors across the entire width of the room letting in lots of light and letting you admire the views from the privacy of your room. Inside the canvas walls are decorated with reproductions of old maps and you’ll have a supply of drinking water and tea and coffee. There are easy chairs and ample storage space. Tall fans keep the air cool. To the front the private deck overlooks the river. The en-suite bathroom is fully plumbed and has twin copper hand basins and 2 separate cubicles for the shower and toilet.
