Footsteps Across the Delta

The name says it all! Footsteps Across the Delta is a small 3-tent camp in the heart of the world-famous Okavango Delta specialising in walking safaris. Mokoro rides and game drives are possible, but it’s really all about the walking here.

You’ll be led on walks in the morning and afternoon, exploring the landscape in detail, taking time to examine small creatures and plants, learn how interpret tracks and spoor and immerse yourself completely in your surroundings. You may well see game, with impala, lechwe, giraffe and elephant all found locally, plus predators such as lion and wild dog. The walking is not arduous and distances can vary according to guests’ wishes and needs, so you’ll have an enjoyable and informative experience. The camp offers 4x4 game drives and mokoro rides (water levels permitting) if you’d like a change from the walking experience.

With just 3 tents you’re assured of personal service. The camp’s precise location tends to vary every couple of years as it’s fully portable, but you’ll be deep in pristine bush.

Accommodation is simple though comfortable, with proper beds and rugs in insect-proof tents. Each has a bush flush toilet and a bucket shower for which hot water can be requested. There’s a wash basin and stand too. Tents are sited beneath tall ebony trees to take advantage of the shade.

The central area is also under canvas. Meals, cooked in a ground oven, are served at the long table places inside the tent or outdoors in the open door. They are complimented by drinks from the bar which stocks soft drinks as well as wine and beer. There is a collection of reference books, to help you brush up on your knowledge. In the evening chairs are set up round the campfire and everyone enjoys hearing about the day’s highlights and tales recounted by the guide and the camp manager by the light of the fire.
