Jacana Camp

Jacana Camp is on a forested island in the remote western Jao concession of the Okavango Delta, neighbouring Moremi Game Reserve. All the tents and the main building are set on elevated decks with wide ranging and beautiful views of the surrounding waterways.

Most activities from this ‘wet’ camp involve the water. There are 7 and 12-seater motorised boats which give you access to the many water channels both near and distant, offering superb wildlife viewing. You can sit back in a mokoro as your guide poles you through the water, spying waterbirds, tiny reed frogs and maybe crocodile as you pass quietly by. Keen and would-be anglers can borrow the camp’s rods and lures to try their hands at catch and release fishing, a seasonal activity. When the waters are low after the floods (usually about September to April) you could be offered game drives on the plains.

The two level main building looks out over a deck to the watery wilderness beyond. There’s plenty of room to relax downstairs by day and enjoy tasty meals created by the chef in the dining room upstairs. At night you can dine on the deck by the light of lanterns.

Tents are set deep into the woodland which offer privacy and shelter. Each has a viewing deck overlooking the water where you can rest quite undisturbed and take in the views. Inside floor to ceiling windows on either side of the bedroom make the rooms exceptionally light. Curtains can be drawn as darkness falls, creating a cosy haven. The large bed has a mosquito net covering and a woven storage trunk at its foot. There are two armchairs and a small table. The bathroom feature his and hers basins, a shower and flush toilet. It leads out to a private deck with either a bathtub or shower, for ablutions with a view!
