This is luxury in the bush. From the moment you awake in your four-poster bed and draw back the curtains to reveal the plains beyond, you know you’re in a very special place. If you want to safari in style, Belmond Khwai River Lodge is the place for you.

This prestigious lodge is all about style, luxury and nature. Waking hours are a mix of safari excitement and refined relaxation, a fine tuned and attractive balance.

The lodge well located for visiting Moremi Game Reserve, prime safari country and while here you can explore by 4×4 to experience the diverse scenery and on foot as you concentrate on smaller details such as animal tracks, plants and insects, which are often missed from a vehicle. Discoveries don’t have to stop at sunset. The lodge is in a private reserve so night drives are permitted, and while at the lodge you can use the telescope for some seriously impressive star gazing.

There’s plenty of time for dining in various locations where you can savour the chef’s creations. Sitting on the covered dining deck you can enjoy the views as well as the cuisine, and the open air boma is the ideal place to sample traditional African dishes and listen to local musicians. Private meals can be arranged on your deck. To make life easy, all meals and local drinks are included in your stay, with premium brands offered at extra cost.
Recreational facilities include an outdoor pool and a spa which offers massages, body treatments and facials. There’s an open-sided lounge with a selection of board games which leads out to a viewing deck where you can watch wildlife at your leisure.

At the end of the day you retire to your spacious tented room, complete with air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom and a sumptuous four-poster bed for a good night’s sleep.

Times to go

This region offers good safaris all year and the lodge is open all year. Dry season (May to November) is a more popular time to visit, but during the wet season showers tend to be short and sharp so there is dry weather between for wildlife viewing and there tend to be fewer people around.

The lodge has 15 rooms and one suite.

The tented rooms are built on timber decks and have thatched roofs. Spacious, each has a four-poster bed fitted with a mosquito net, a sitting area, gauze windows, standard lamps, minibar, tea and coffee maker, charging points, safe, rugs and cushions. They are equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans and heaters. There’s an intercom so you can contact reception. Glazed sliding doors open to your private deck. Every tent has an en-suite bathroom with twin vanity units and comes with dressing gowns and slippers.  

There is one suite which offers extra seclusion and luxury. It is positioned away from the rooms. The interior has individual climate control and the same facilities as the rooms, plus a few extras. These include two open air showers and a copper bathtub, also outside and screened by trees. The suite has a larger private deck than the rooms, with sun loungers and a heated plunge pool. The deck can also be used for private dining.
