Little Mombo overview
Little Mombo is a short distance along a raised walkway from its larger and equally luxurious sister camp, Mombo Camp. It’s on Mombo Island, just off Chief’s Island in Moremi Game Reserve. This is one of Botswana’s premier wildlife destinations, and game drives here will open your eyes to an immense diversity of flora and fauna. You can hope to see a variety of plains game and their predators, including all the big cats. Lions are pretty well guaranteed every day, leopards are frequently seen, buffalos often sleep under the walkways, and this is one of the few places in Botswana where you’re likely to see a rhino. The abundant birdlife includes kingfishers, goliath heron, fish eagles and, if you’re in luck, Pel’s fishing owl.
As its name suggests the Little Mombo is small and was completely rebuilt in 2017. There are just 3 tents set well apart, so if you value your space and privacy you’ll love Little Mombo. As well as a bedroom you’ll have an indoor sitting room with folding doors opening on to the large veranda with comfy couches. The small selection of magazines is thoughtful touch. The sala, a shaded retreat, is ideal for resting out of the heat of the sun, as is your private plunge pool. A dressing area leads to the fully equipped bathroom which is supplemented by a sensual outdoor shower. You’ll be supplied with a complete range of toiletries.
The communal areas comprise the dining room, lounge and bar, all with far-reaching views across the floodplains. Sitting here you can enjoy your own wildlife display as you unwind and savour a chilled drink. The tents and central areas are all set on raised decks and linked by walkways high off the ground, allowing animals can wander freely around the camp, so you can watch in perfect safety. The plunge pool is a must on a hot day. There are loungers for sun lovers and a sala for those who prefer to keep out of the heat. The firepit is used for afternoon tea and sundowners, while the boma is sometimes the venue for open air dinners. There’s even a gym (shared with Mombo) so you can work off those sumptuous meals.
Little Mombo is quite simply one of the best camps in Botswana set in one of the best wildlife viewing areas in Botswana. But you pay highly for the privilege of staying here.
