Little Motswiri overview

The 5-tent Little Motswiri (previously known as ‘Kala Bushcamp’) is set among trees by a tributary of the Selinda Spillway.  Kala is the small fly-camp of big sister, Motswiri Camp, which is some 12kms away.  Both camps can be combined for comprehensive safari in this area, though Little Motswiri is only open in the dry season from roughly April to November.

The best ways to explore this remote area are on foot and horseback (experienced riders only), allowing you to escape the noise of motors and watch out for the little details you just can’t see from a vehicle. Walks are conducted in groups of no more than 6 and may last up to 5 hours.  Other options include mokoro rides and motorised boat trips when water levels allow. You can also try your hand at fishing.

The large mess area is set under a high canvas roof and is the social heart of the camp, where you’ll spend downtime between activities, enjoy authentic safari cuisine and chat with other guests. To the front, on the banks of the spillway, is the campfire, the main gathering place each evening before and after dinner.

Sandy pathways lead from the central area to the walk-in tents, set beneath tall trees facing the spillway. The bedroom is entered through the flysheet. It’s a cosy space with colourful rugs on the floor, patterned curtains for the mesh windows, comfy beds and bedside tables. In a zip-up enclosure to the rear there’s a chemical loo for use during the night. A short distance from each tent you’ll find a screened bucket shower is set next to a small changing room where you’ll find some toiletries. There’s also a long drop toilet nearby. Twin washbasins and a mirror are located under the canopy at the front of each tent. In this private space you’ll have fold-up safari chairs and a table. This is genuine bush camping with the benefit of creature comforts.
