Machaba Camp overview
Machaba Camp is a recreation of a classic 1950s-era safari camp, a fusion of style and simplicity in the heart of the African bush. It has a prime riverfront site and you’ll enjoy glorious views from the privacy of your own tent as well as from the public areas of the camp.
Game drives are the main activity here and include exciting night drives, which are not allowed in the national park. Being just across the water from Moremi Game reserve, this is a great wildlife area and you’re likely to get some great game viewing.
Lounge with large comfy sofas and chairs, coffee tables, lamps and free standing fans set in a tent with large gauze windows and a rug-strewn floor. Settle back and browse through a book from the camp’s extensive collection, as you rest after a thrilling game drive. Meals are served in an adjoining area, most of which are served buffet style and eaten together, though dinner is often eaten outside under the starry sky. In the evening the campfire is lit and you’ll be invited to draw up a chair, take a drink and join in the conversation. At the far end of camp is the swimming pool and sundeck.
Guest tents are similar in décor, also with large gauze windows on both sides to let the views in and keep any unwelcome visitors out. Floors are covered with matting and coloured rugs. There’s lot of room and you’ll have a sitting area and a writing desk as well as a comfy bed. Fans keep the air cool. The whole room looks out onto the veranda, with canvas flaps that can be zipped up at night. You’ll have a personal supply of different varieties of tea. The ablution facilities include an indoor and outdoor shower, dual wash basins and a flush toilet. You’ll find a range of complimentary toiletries.
This camp is a traditional tented camp with the luxury ‘creature comforts’ you like from home. ITs location is fantastic, right on the Khwai River and the staff are always happy to help with anything you need. This kind of camp is one of my favourites!
