Northern Okavango Delta
Mapula Lodge evokes the spirit of Africa in the days of the early explorers with its use of wood and thatch, traditional soft furnishings and local artwork. Expert guides lead land and water-based safaris showcasing the delta’s diversity before you return to the idyllic island lodge to relax.

The nine tents are traditional in style, built of canvas and thatch and filled with campaign furniture plus special touches such as four poster beds, colourful kilim rugs, brass lanterns and indulgent outdoor showers. The mess tent has a similar feel. Sit back in one of the cushion-strewn sofas as you flick through a book, sip a drink from the honesty bar and admire the carved furniture and artworks. To one side there’s a dining table, and the whole area is open-fronted so you can enjoy the views. It leads out to the lower level deck with a dining area, firepit, large sofa and a wooden walkway down to the lagoon. There’s a small swimming pool, sunbathing deck and shaded lounging area, also overlooking the lagoon.
Times to go:
The Okavango Delta is a year round destination. April to October is dry season and the most popular time for game viewing as the grasses are lower. November to March is green season coinciding with rain, usually short but intense showers and this is a good time to see newborns. Game drives, boat safaris and mokoro rides take place all year at Mapula Lodge. There’s no bad time to visit.
Enjoy a mix of 4×4 safaris, motorised boat trips and gently-paced mokoro rides to experience the diversity of the Okavango Delta, all led by well-trained safari guides. Scenic sundowners are also part of your stay at Mapula Lodge. The lodge is in a private concession in a relatively isolated part of the Okavango Delta and you rarely see other vehicles so feel as though you have the wilderness to yourself. Despite this remote location, the lodge is easily reached having its own airstrip just a short flight from Maun.
