Mashatu Tented Camp overview

Mashatu Tented Camp is in the privately-owned Mashatu Game Reserve, a remote location which has abundant animal and bird life. Despite the remote location Mashatu can be easily reached from both Botswana and South Africa with regular flights from Maun and Johannesburg.

Game drives are led by experienced rangers and trackers who are eager to show off all the reserve has to offer. Afternoon drives include a stop at a scenic spot for sundowners, continuing in the dark with spotlights seeking nocturnal species. Drives take a maximum of six people per vehicle. It’s not only game drives, you’ll also be able to go for guided walks and watch wildlife in close proximity from the various hides, with great chances of taking that perfect photograph. Mountain biking safaris and horse riding (experienced riders only) are also available.  Read more about the horse riding safaris.

The camp atmosphere is casual and relaxed and with just eight tents all the guests and staff soon get to know each other. There is an open-sided thatched building where meals are served during the day plus a boma which is the usual venue for dinner, by the camp fire under the African sky. For a remote camp with limited kitchen resources, the chef never fails to produce impressive, creative dishes. In the middle of the day you can enjoy a cooling dip in the plunge pool, take time out in the lounge to catch up on some reading, sip a drink from the bar or enjoy a siesta.

The tents are of the spacious, walk-in variety. Drawers and shelves provide plenty of storage space and there are points where you can charge batteries. The mesh windows admit light and have covers that can be lowered at night. Freestanding fans help to keep the interior cool. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a bucket shower that is open to the sky but screened by wooden fences for privacy. At the front of each tent there’s a covered veranda.
