Zambezi National Park, Victoria Falls
Mpala Jena is the ultimate luxury camp on the banks of the Zambezi. For those desiring exclusivity Mpala Jena ticks the boxes. Game drives in a private concession and a maximum of just eight guests in camp at any one time.
Mpala Jena offers an upmarket authentic safari experience. Built in a private concession in the Zambezi National Park, this is one of the new kids on the block for the very well established Great Plains Conservation spearheaded by Dereck and Beverly Joubert. Victoria Falls is just 16km away, downstream.
This is a small camp, just four luxurious tents, two either side of the main area, in a peaceful and tranquil setting facing the Zambezi River. Days are given over to nature as you enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and eye-opening guided walks, with boat cruises and canoeing offered when water levels allow. This area is home to a wide number of plains game, plus lion and leopard, and some 400 species of birds. Victoria Falls and its many attractions and activities add to the variety.
Completely separate from the camp, for those wanting even more exclusivity there is the Mpala Jena Suite. It’s equally impressive and exquisite. The two en-suite bedrooms provide ample space, and there’s a shared lounge-dining room and outdoor terrace. It operates independently of the camp and is truly exclusive.

There are 212 rooms and suites at Avani Victoria Falls Resort. All rooms are stylishly decorated with African and Arabic influences to the fore.
Enter your tent (and we use that term loosely) through an ornate reclaimed wooden door. The over-sized bed bedecked with crisp white linen dominates the room, draped in a mozzie net to ensure your comfort at night. Antique rugs cover the wooden floor. There’s a lounge area with leather chairs and a sofa, an en-suite bathroom with bathtub, separated by a curved wall made from local stone, and an outdoor shower. Out on the deck, where you can enjoy a private dinner by lantern light you’ll find the pool and sun loungers. The decor is elegant, classic and tasteful with a hint of Moroccan influence.
Mpala Jena Suite
This exquisite, private two-bedroom tented suite operates completely separately from the rest of camp. Built on a raised deck made from reclaimed hardwood it has magnificent views of the Zambezi River. The suite sleeps four adults or a family of five if children are in the mix. Each bedroom is en-suite and they sit either side of the central lounge and dining area. To the front is the spacious deck leading to a plunge pool and campfire area. Both bedrooms and the lounge look out onto the river.

Tuskwana the Elephant likes this because…
“Mpala Jena is an environmentally innovative camp. All the wood and canvas used in building the camp is recycled, all the camp’s electricity is provided by solar power.”
And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Botswana Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.
