Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp overview
Nxabega Camp (pronounced na-becca) is set in a grove of tall ebony trees overlooking waterways and lagoons of the Okavango Delta. You’ll be able to take to the waters by mokoro and motor boat to experience the Delta for yourself, with your guide pointing out the varied bird and animal life. Local conditions permitting, 4x4 safaris take you across grasslands and floodplains for exhilarating encounters with game including the Big 5. On bush walks with your guide you’ll learn how to ‘read’ the bush, noticing and interpreting tracks and spoor, finding out how each plant and animal fits into the ecosystem.
You’ll generally spend the middle of the day in camp, sheltering from the heat in the thatched lounge as you settle back on a comfy sofa and chat to other guests. The pool is perfect for a cooling swim and you can take in sweeping views of the watery wilderness from the deck. Lunch is served in a shady spot by the water, after which you can rest and maybe have a siesta. Dinner can be enjoyed indoors in the wood panelled dining room, or outdoors under the starry sky.
Tents are arranged along sandy paths. Each is set on its own raised deck with a short flight of steps leading up to the door in front of which there are safari chairs and a trendy swing chair. Inside the tent matting and rugs cover the floor, large screened windows make the room light and fans provide a refreshing breeze. There is plenty of room for the attractive wooden furniture. There is a larger tent consisting of 2 linked tents, ideal for families. Drinking water and snacks are supplied daily and there’s a cool bag for chilled drinks of your choice. The bathroom, separate from the bedroom, features a rain head shower, porcelain basin and flush toilet, and there’s an additional outdoor shower. You have an assigned attendant for the duration of your stay who takes pride in looking after you and making your stay as comfy as it can be.
Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp is a very high quality camp in an area which, whilst not always considered the very best for high densities of game, offers good wildlife viewing. It’s quite a relaxed camp, which is especially good in the green season.
