Sable Alley Camp overview
Sable Alley is a complete rebuild of the old favourite bush camp, Banoka but aside from the same stunning location, the two bear no real resemblance.
The camp overlooks a lagoon that is connected to the Khwai and Sable Alley rivers in the game rich Khwai Concession. With diverse landscapes incorporating riverine woodlands, open floodplains, rivers and mopane woodland, the area attracts diverse wildlife. You may come across leopard, lion, wilddog, elephant and buffalo – you may even see the area’s namesake, the sable, as you explore the area.
There are just 12 tents in the camp, all built on wooden decks, and constructed from wooden frames with canvas, large mesh windows and the modern decor give them a contemporary feel. Each tent has a spacious bedroom area, writing desk, dressing area and an en-suite bathroom housing both indoor and outdoor showers. Hot water and lighting are solar, in keeping with the strong conservation message of Botswana. Sliding doors lead you out onto your private deck where there is shaded seating so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush from your own room if you wish. All tents overlook the lagoon.
The attractive main area houses the lounge and bar, there is also a dining area under cover, though often meals are enjoyed under the stars on the deck overlooking the pool and the firepit – a popular spot to wind up the day with convivial chat around the campfire.
Activities centre around day and night game drives throughout this vast concession, just a stone’s throw from the famous Moremi Game Reserve. When water levels allow it is also possible to enjoy the quintessential delta excursion and explore the waterways by mokoro, the traditional dugout canoe, a tranquil way to enjoy birding and you glide over the water. When water levels are high enough, you could opt for a trip in a motorboat.
