Splash Camp overview
Splash Camp is in the private Kwara concession, adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve. This huge concession, over 175,000 ha in size, is home to a wide variety of wildlife and is well known for good predator sightings. There are just 12 tents in the camp, which opened its doors in 2018. Each tent is built on a raised deck overlooking a pan. The pan is frequented by wildlife year round, making your private deck the perfect place to spend a little down time between activities.
Game drives take place both morning and evening. The vehicles have 3 rows of 3 seats, but with a maximum of 6 guests per vehicle, everyone has a ‘window’ seat. Somewhat unusual for Botswana your vehicle will have both a guide and a tracker on board, that’s two pairs of eyes on the lookout. The tracker also frees up your guide so he can spend time explaining the various sightings and sharing his extensive knowledge with you. The afternoon game drive, continues into the evening with a spotlight, many species are nocturnal and this will be your only chance of seeing them. The drives can also be conducted off road, as you are in a private concession, you are not restricted to the roads.
A mokoro trip is a must, it really is the quintessential delta experience. Relax as you are gently propelled along the lagoon and channels with your guide, it’s probably one of the most peaceful ways to experience this beautiful natural wonder and you’ll see things from a totally different perspective. Also offered are motor boat excursions, this will give you the opportunity to explore even further and see what’s going on by the water’s edge. Between August and September the boats are able to visit the heronries that are located nearby at Godikwe and Gcobega lagoon.
Walking safaris are offered with an armed guide, this is always at the discretion of your guide as safety comes first. Often in the green season, the grass is long and there may be predators in the area, at such times walking safaris may be suspended.
Between activities you’ll have time to settle back in a comfy sofa with a drink and take in the stunning views. You can help yourself at the well-stocked bar and tea and coffee are always available. There’s a small swimming pool which can be most welcome on a hot afternoon after a dusty game drive. Mealtimes are always start as guest gather around the fire before being called to sit down at the large communal table. After a 3 course meal, retire to the fire for a coffee or liquer and a little light chat, before doing it all again tomorrow.
Splash Enclave is part of the camp layout but when booked for small groups of 6 to 10 people, it has its own separate lounge, bar and dining area, and also a separate plunge pool. This makes for a more private and intimate experience for a small group.
