Thamalakane River Lodge

Enjoy sunsets over the Thamalakane River, convivial meals on the dining terrace, boat trips and guided walks, relaxing swims and spa therapies before retiring to your cosy, en-suite chalet. Conveniently close to Maun, the lodge offers great value for money.

Thamalakane River Lodge is just outside the town of Maun, about 20 minutes from the airport, in a peaceful riverside setting. It offers excellent value for money.

Guest chalets are relatively simple yet perfectly comfortable, with twin or double beds all fitted with mosquito nets, fans and an open skylight to keep them cool and glass doors that open on to a small veranda. You have hot drink making facilities and free Wi-Fi. Some of these chalets have a sofa bed for a child or two children and there are two larger chalets with two bedrooms each and a small lounge which make excellent family accommodation.

During the day you can take boat trips on the river, got for short walks led by a guide and enjoy watching birds in the gardens. If you want to venture further afield lodge staff can organise 4×4 safaris in Moremi Game Reserve and boat and mokoro trips into the Okavango Delta. There’s also an opportunity to visit a nearby village for a taste of local life. Back at the lodge you can relax with a swim in the pool or a massage at the spa.

At mealtimes you can choose between the indoor restaurant and the terrace. Meals tend to be served buffet style from April to December, with a la carte options offered from January to March. Both the restaurant and the terrace overlook the river and have great sunset views. There’s a choice of wines to accompany dishes. The bar and gin lounge are great places to mix with other guests as you unwind after a day out and about or relaxing at the lodge.

Times to go:

This area can be visited year-round and Thamalakane River Lodge is open all year. Game drives take place throughout the year in the Okavango Delta, but mokoro and boat rides are dependent on water levels which are highest between June and August.
