Tlouwana Camp

A welcoming family owned and run camp neighbouring Chobe National Park offering land and water-based safaris and opportunities to visit the local village. Comfort and friendly service are key to a stay at Tlouwana Camp.

This small family owned and run safari camp has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where you can feel at home as you rest between the various activities available to you. You stay in a traditional meru-style safari tent, en-suite, air-conditioned and attractively furnished.

A local Setswana word, Tlouwana means young elephant and is entirely apt as this area has the highest concentration of elephants in Africa. View these and other animals on morning and sunset river cruises and game drives in Chobe National Park. You also have the chance to explore after dark with night drives in the forest reserve, get a feel for local life on a guided cycle tour to Lesoma village and even have a day trip to Victoria Falls. It all makes for a varied and action-packed stay.

In camp you have time to get to know other guests as you unwind in the lounge and by the campfire over pre-prandial drinks. Meals are eaten in the roomy, open-sided dining tent at individual tables, with dinner sometimes eaten in the open under the stars. The swimming pool is perfect for cooling dips and there are loungers on the sundeck for sun lovers. Tlouwana Camp has a small shop where you can buy locally made gifts and souvenirs.

Tlouwana Camp is a sister property to The Old House in Kasane.

Times to go

Chobe can be visited year round. Wildlife viewing is generally best from August to October, but these months can also be very hot. The rainy season is November to April.

Tuskwana the Elephant is your guide to choosing acommodation that make a difference to their community or environment. And you can click him for our TRAVEL + PROTECT page.

Tuskwana the Elephant likes this because…

“Tlouwana Camp uses solar-heated water and has its own water treatment plant to recycle all the water used in the camp, which is then used to water the gardens. They use hydroelectric power. The camp helps provide employment to local people with many of the staff drawn from the nearby village of Lesoma.”

And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Botswana Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.

You can click on Tuskwana to read more about our TRAVEL + PROTECT initiatives on our Tribes website, including ways you can help with our ongoing projects.
