Camp Okavango sits on Nxaraga Island, right in the middle of the Delta, and it is unapologetically a water camp. You explore by mokoro through the channels, by motorboat along the deeper rivers, and on foot with a guide looking at the plants, insects and birds as much as the big game.
One thing to be clear about before you book: there are no game drives here. That is not an oversight, it is the whole idea. If you want to tick off predators from a vehicle, this is the wrong camp and we will say so. If you want the Delta at the pace it actually moves, there are few better places.
The suites are large, raised on wooden decks among shady trees, with folding doors onto a private viewing deck. Inside there are big beds, tea and coffee, bathrobes, fans and twenty-four hour solar power, with twin showers and twin basins in the bathroom.
The main area is a run of decks joined by walkways, with indoor and outdoor seating, a library, a dining room, a self-service bar, an infinity pool and a sundeck. Meals are usually communal. As it gets dark everyone gathers at the firepits before dinner, and there is a private hide for birdwatching.
Eleven suites plus a one-bedroom family suite, raised on decks with a large private deck of your own. Full-size beds, storage, fans, charging points, tea and coffee, bathrobes, a torch and twenty-four hour solar power. En suite with a double shower, twin basins, separate flush toilet and biodegradable toiletries.
