Chobe Elephant Camp is on a bluff above the river a few minutes from the park entrance, with the floodplains laid out below and Namibia on the far side. The view is the thing here. You get it from almost everywhere in camp, and it is the reason people remember the place.
The chalets are honest and comfortable rather than smart: polished wooden floors, ceiling beams, rustic furniture, and thick sandbag walls that keep the summer heat and winter cold where they belong. Each has a private bathroom with both an indoor and an outdoor shower, and a balcony with that view.
The communal side is a restaurant, a high-ceilinged lounge and bar, a quiet corner for reading, and a plunge pool with a deck over a waterhole. The fire is lit before sundown, which is where everyone ends up, drink in hand.
Days are game drives and boat safaris in the eastern part of the park, with nature walks in the neighbouring Forest Reserve and visits to the local Sibuya village. This is the western side of Chobe, which is considerably quieter than Kasane.
Rustic interiors with a homely feel, private veranda, en suite with both indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning and fans, charging points and a safe.
One larger unit with an additional outdoor shower.
