DumaTau means roar of the lion, which is not marketing: the camp sits in prime lion hunting ground in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. The area is also known for its very large elephant population, and a good deal of both can be watched from camp without getting into a vehicle at all.
Game drives are the main activity across this private reserve, with night drives under spotlight and nature walks each showing you a different side of it. When the water is high enough you can go out by boat and fish, though it is catch and release.
For photographers this is a particularly good camp. There is a hide, there are viewing platforms, and simply sitting patiently on your own deck or the main deck tends to pay off.
The camp is raised on wooden decks over the lagoon, the canvas rooms under thatch. The lounge and dining area is large and open-sided with views over the water, filled with old safari furniture, wooden chests, vintage lamps and local pieces. Tea, coffee and snacks run all day, many meals are served outside on the dining deck, and the firepit sits on its own circular deck for drinks afterwards. The pool and sundeck are tucked away out of sight.
Your suite is a spacious canvas-roofed structure with mesh windows and sliding doors running the full width, so the light and the view come in. The canvas walls are hung with reproductions of old maps. Easy chairs, a writing desk, ample storage, tall fans, and a private deck over the river. The bathroom is fully plumbed with twin copper basins and separate cubicles for shower and toilet.
Drinks on the pontoon before dinner are the thing people remember.

Bed with mosquito net, reading lights, freestanding and ceiling fans, writing desk, armchairs, safe, tea, coffee and drinking water. Mesh windows and full-width sliding doors onto a private deck over the river. En suite with twin copper basins and separate shower and toilet cubicles.
