The Okavango is one of the natural wonders of Africa. Every year the river floods out into the Kalahari, creating a shifting maze of channels, islands and lagoons that bursts with life. It is the only place where you spend as much time on the water as on land, and there really is nothing like it.

Why go

What makes the Delta special

Water safaris

Glide through the channels by mokoro and motorboat, getting close to the wildlife from the water.

Wildlife

Elephant, lion, leopard, red lechwe and an incredible variety of birdlife thrive in the wetland.

Remote camps

Small camps sit alone in private concessions, so sightings are quiet and uncrowded.

Land and air

Combine game drives with a scenic flight over the Delta for the full picture of this watery maze.

Where to stay

When to go

Best time to visit the Delta

The flood usually arrives between May and August, which is the classic time for water-based safaris. The dry months from June to October concentrate the wildlife and offer the best game viewing. The green season from November brings new life and wonderful birding.
