Victoria Falls
Add on break

Victoria Falls – An easy extension to a Botswana Safari.

We do know that Victoria Falls is not in Botswana, but it’s just a stone’s throw from Chobe and if you are visiting that area of Botswana it would be a shame to miss this amazing site of natural beauty.

The new Victoria Falls airport in Zimbabwe has recently opened and it is expanding tourism into the region. You can easily start (or finish) your holiday here. Spend a couple of days seeing the sights, including the falls themselves of course, and if the mood takes you, partake is some adrenalin inducing activities such as bungee jumping, flying fox or white-water rafting. If you prefer something more sedate such as a romantic sunset cruise on the Zambezi complete with cocktails and canapes, it’s all here.

Then you can head over to Botswana to continue your African adventure. A journey from Victoria Falls to Kasane Airport will take a little over an hour and the border formalities are usually quite painless, so it really is easy to include Victoria Falls on your itinerary. If you prefer, you can visit the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, the transfer then involves a boat/ferry crossing and will take a little longer, but it is a well organised transfer and quite straightforward.

There are many accommodation options when visiting either side of the falls, something to suit all budgets. A particular favourite in Zimbabwe is Elephant Camp, just a short 20 minute drive from town, yet you feel like you are a world away in the heart of wilderness, you can see the spray of the falls, and also hear the thundering water cascading into the ravine when the wind is in the right direction, it’s clear to see why it is called The Smoke That Thunders. The Victoria Falls Hotel is a journey back in time, this iconic Edwardian building dates back to the early 20th century and was the first hotel in the town. Step through the door and you are immediately transported to a bygone era. Gentler on the pocket, Batonka is a lovely new guest house offering B&B accommodation in a quiet leafy suburb of town. Zambia also has accommodation options across the board too. Waterberry Lodge is a small rustic lodge on the banks of the Zambezi, a short distance from the falls a good mid-range option, and for the more budget conscious there is Maramba River Lodge, also not far from the falls.
